Last week I started my re-read of the Lux Series. This time around I decided to read the version from Daemon’s POV: Oblivion. If like me you are a huge Daemon Black fan then this book is a must read!
I have the Kindle version which includes Obsidian, Onyx, and Opal. So I’ve only re-read the first 3 books so far, and to make things easier I’ve done mini reviews for each.
Book 1: Oblivion (LUX #1.5)
Blurb
I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door, there was going to be trouble. Lots of it.
And trouble’s the last thing I need, since I’m not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet thirteen billion light years away. Plus, if there’s one thing I know, it’s that humans can’t be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. ‘Cuz they are.
But Kat is getting to me in ways no one else has, and I can’t stop myself from wanting her—or wanting to use my powers to protect her. She makes me weak, and I’m the strongest of our kind, tasked with protecting us all. So this one simple girl…she can mean the end for us. Because the Luxen have an even bigger enemy—the Arum, and I need to stay on my game.
Falling for Katy—a human—won’t just place her in danger. It could get us all killed, and that’s one thing I’ll never let happen…
I really enjoyed reading this story from Daemons perspective. You really get a greater understanding of why he behaves as he does when he first meets Katy. The banter between the two of them is pretty epic. I also liked all the bonus scenes in this book and the insight to what was happening to Daemon when Katy wasn’t around.
I thought the pace in which the relationship between him and Katy was really nice, it was just long enough that it kept me hooked. I also really enjoyed all the action in this story. Overall it was a really excellent read.
If you haven’t read Obsidian which is the original story told from Katy’s perspective then you should probably read that first.
My Rating: 5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Book 2: Onyx (Lux #2)
Blurb
Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.
Something worse than the Arum has come to town…
The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there’s this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that’s possible. Against all common sense, I’m falling for Daemon. Hard.
But then everything changes…
I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?
No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…
The second book in the series focuses on the repercussions that Katy and Daemon must face now that she is mutated.
Things I liked were, Katy independence! She is determined to learn to defend herself so that she doesn’t have to rely on Daemon to protect her. Daemons determination to win Katy over and prove that his feelings for her are genuine and not just because they have a weird alien connection now. Also anytime they gave into their feelings and just had a full on make out sessions!
What I didn’t like, Blake!! God, he’s such an annoying slime ball of a character. Every scene he’s in makes my skin crawl! I admit Kat did frustrate me a bit in this book with her lack of trust in Daemon but with how he treated her in the first book I can see her point.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was an excellent follow on from the first book
My Rating: 5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Book 3: Opal (Lux #3)
Blurb
After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we’re stronger… and they know it.
With Dawson back and alive the focus is on getting Bethany back.
What I liked, Daemon and Katy finally working together. I also liked how the dynamic between Daemon Katy and Dawson. The introduction of new characters, Luc was my favorite! I also like how the Luxen’s in Daemon’s life are slowly starting to accept that he and Katy are together now.
What I didn’t like, the return of Blake! (rolls eyes). Dee and Katy are not on speaking terms.
The ending of this book was an absolute killer! It really does hit you in all the feels so be prepared.
That’s it, I’m keeping things fairly vague as I don’t want to give too much away.
My Rating: 5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
That’s it from me today.
