I received an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
So I was really intrigued when I read the synopsis of this book I thought it looked like it would be a good read, however, I did end up being disappointed. This was largely due to Janey. Her emotional intelligence was for the most part non-existent. It wasn’t until the very end that she acknowledged that her parents had feelings and needs which I thought for someone who is 17 was a bit stunted.

Janey did lose her virginity (in a typical perfect way that all books usually depict it as) but I really don’t think she was emotionally ready, for example after her first fight with Luke (which was so pointless – I’m shocked he didn’t dump her on the spot for being so childish) she had so many “feelings that are new and complicated” that she felt scared, to quote “what I think I really need right now is my Mom. Or more accurately, my mommy. I want the mommy who makes me feel safe and snug, not the person I saw doing horizontal bop this afternoon” Seriously? If you can’t handle a fight with your boyfriend without reverting to a5-year-oldd then you shouldn’t be having sex. Also your Mom is a grown as women, why is it not ok for her to have sex? Sure, walking in on her doing the deed is gross but Jesus get over it already.
Another thing that bothered me about her was that two of her close friends became a couple and she was jealous of this even though at this stage she was in a relationship with Luke.
I thought Luke was a bit too perfect, the only flaws he seemed to have was that he was a huge flirt and a people pleaser. I thought he was rather boring to be honest.
The ending was blah much like most of the book.
Conclusion
You can probably deduce from the above that this book did not do that for me. I hate giving a negative review especially as this is the authors first book, but I really can’t find anything I liked about this book.
