Synopsis
With shades of The Hunger Games, Ender’s Game, and Game of Thrones, debut author Pierce Brown’s genre-defying epic Red Rising hit the ground running and wasted no time becoming a sensation.
Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom from the overlords of a brutal elitist future built on lies. Now fully embedded among the Gold ruling class, Darrow continues his work to bring down Society from within.
A life-or-death tale of vengeance with an unforgettable hero at its heart, Golden Son guarantees Pierce Brown’s continuing status as one of fiction’s most exciting new voices.

My Review
This story picks up 2 years after Red Rising. Darrow is now working closely with Nero Au Augustus the ArchGovernor of Mars, all the while trying to bring down Gold Society.
This book really pulled me in more so than Red Rising! I finished this book Sunday evening and usually I like to write my reviews straight away while it’s all fresh, but this one, I just needed to digest and I mean that in a good way. This story is emotionally charged, action packed and kept me on the edge of my seat right to the end and what an ending that was! Holy shit I did not see that coming, I won’t say too much else about It but just be prepared to have your heart ripped out! Thanks for that Pierce Brown!
The world building in this story is breath taking. I love the idea that mankind is now living all over the solar system. The vast difference between how the Golds live and how the Reds and other low colors live is harsh.
I Iove Darrow! He is such a complex character, I like the way in which his character grew, but at the time I felt he was a little naïve when it came to what the people around him were feeling. I also really liked that he’s not perfect and he does make mistakes and these mistakes often have catastrophic consequences for him and the people he holds dear.
I also enjoyed the supporting characters, Sevro is particularly entertaining. Mustang I like her but I feel like I need to see more emotion from her. The bad guys in this book are like super villains, it’s been a while since I’ve read a book series where there are so many characters that are just plain evil arseholes. I mean seriously fucked up evil. We are also introduced to Ragnar Volarus, he offers his servitude to Darrow after Darrow takes over the ship is was enslaved on.
Conclusion
This was such a good read, and definitely, a must read if you have read Red Rising. I’m still so mad that it has taken me this long to get to reading this series because man have I been missing out!
My Rating: 5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
