Synopsis
Haunted by the responsibility of caring for her troubled family, Maya Jacobs gave the only answer she could when Cameron asked her to marry him. Years later, entrenched in a soulless professional routine, she distracts herself from the lingering regret of her decision with a “work hard, play hard” lifestyle that guarantees no man will ever find his way into her heart again.
Cameron Bridge has spent the past five years married to the military, trying to escape the painful memory of losing Maya. After fighting his own war in the desert, he starts a new life in New York City, with his siblings, Olivia and Darren, by his side.
When fate brings Maya back to him in the heart of a city filled with its own hopes and shadows, can Cameron find the girl he once loved in the woman she’s become?

Review
I’m a little disappointed with this one. It’s the first book by Meredith Wild that I’ve not completely enjoyed before I get into that a bit of background on the story.
Maya and Cameron were a couple during college until he proposed and she refuses because she couldn’t leave her mother behind. Fast forward 5 years and they both leading vastly different lives. Cameron owns his own Gym after serving time on the military, and Maya is now walking on wall street. After a chance meeting with his sister, Maya and Cameron are reunited.
The thing that I didn’t like that most are that none of the characters underlying conditions were properly addressed. Maya is clearly alcohol dependent which is more obvious when she explained why she drinks. Cameron has brief moments of PTSD and none of this issues are really looked into in any depth.
So I did like the gist of the storyline which is what drew me to this book. The chemistry between Cameron and Maya was on fire and you could really feel the love they have for each other.
The Bottom Line:
Even though I didn’t really enjoy this book myself, I do think I would recommend especially if you are after a bit of smut.
