[Book Review] Shatter Me – Tahereh Mafi

Synopsis

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a -year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Review

The as we know it is over, 17 year old Juliette has been taken away from society because her touch is deadly. She has spent the last 4 years in solitary confinement that the Establishment has put her in and now they want to use her as a weapon.

I didn’t love or hate this book, it peaked my interest though and that’s what kept me reading. Juliette’s ability is intriguing and I’m eager to learn more about it. Adam is one of the other main characters and I really feel like this book didn’t even properly touch on what is really going on with him.

Overall I think that it was a good opening book but I really wanted more story, so I’ll definitely be reading the rest of the series.

  1. I think I gave this one 3 stars as well. I really liked Adam. I didn’t really enjoy the rest of the books sadly. Hopefully you have better luck with them ❤

      1. The writing mainly. The descriptions…I have one in my review saying “It was wrong, wrong as an upside down rainbow.” It just wasn’t for me sadly.
