[Book Review] Everless by Sarah Holland

Synopsis

Time is a prison. She is the key. Packed with danger, temptation and desire – a perfect read for fans of The Red Queen.

In the land of Sempera, the rich control everything – even time. Ever since the age of alchemy and sorcery, hours, days and years have been extracted from blood and bound to iron coins. The rich live for centuries; the poor bleed themselves dry.

Jules and her father are behind on their rent and low on hours. To stop him from draining himself to clear their debts, Jules takes a job at Everless, the grand estate of the cruel Gerling family.

There, Jules encounters danger and temptation in the guise of the Gerling heir, Roan, who is soon to be married. But the web of secrets at Everless stretches beyond her desire, and the truths Jules must uncover will change her life for ever … and possibly the future of time itself.

Review

In Sempera time is currency, wait no that’s an oversimplification, blood is time and time is the currency that is made of blood. Jules and her dad are behind on resnt so Jules is preparing herself to make a blood payment, but her father won’t let her do this and so to stop him from bleeding himself dry Jules takes a job at Everless, the home of the Gurling family the same place that Jules and her dad had to flee when she was a child. When Jules arrives at Everless old secrets and who she really is, starts to come out.

Everless is one of those books that I kept hearing about and didn’t really pay much attention to until I took the time to find out what it was all about, it did pique my interest but I just added it to my tbr and moved on, until a couple of weeks ago when I saw it on offer and thought eh why not?

I’m really glad I took a chance on this book because it was it was totally amazing! I loved how intricate the storytelling was, it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was so addictive I pretty much finished this book in a day.

I loved Jules, her character is awesome, I thought she was very well written and I enjoyed her journey in discovering all the secrets about herself. Other significant characters in this story were Roan and Liam, who are brothers who Jules grew up with whilst at Everless. Throughout the story Roan is the love interest and whilst he is somewhat dream I found him to kinda bland and boring. Liam is supposed to be the bad brother who is mean and should be feared but I found myself liking him a lot more which I have no reason for except that I just felt like there was more to him than what Jules was seeing.

Anyway the ending… MY.GOD. I just …. I can’t wait for the book it was seriously painful that the story ended the way it did, now I have to wait months for Evermore to come out to find out what happens next!

  1. I didn’t really like this book, actually. I thought the characters weren’t developed enough and it was boring. Jules also made a ton of illogical decisions. I felt like things were just happening instead of there being a reason for it.
    The ending was spectacular, though.
