My Thoughts
I have a love-hate relationship with this movie. It’s nothing like the book, but I think this was done was done on purpose. If you have read the Princess Diaries then you will know that essentially the theme is similar, Mia is a normal teenager until she learns that she is the Princess of Genovia – the story moves along and eventually after everyone finds out and multiple movies of her life are made, but its none of them are like what actually happened and I think this is what this Movie is. Still with me? This is further evidenced when she goes on to say that they made the Grandmother nice and I’m pretty certain she even references the theme of the Princess Diaries 2 because she mentions one of the movies depicts her and Michael breaking up.
So while I’m not keen on how they did the movie, if my theory is correct then it’s actually pretty clever.
So apart from this movie being nothing like the book, the other things that I’m not to keen on is the casting choices, I think they got Josh and Michael so wrong, Michael in particular because they made him kind of emo looking and I don’t remember him being described that way.
I do love Julie Andrews in this film, she is brilliant and it’s what made this movie so watchable. I did hear that they are making the third movie now? I’m guessing this will be about how Mia is ruling? I don’t know but I’m excited either way.
