Burning Moon – Jo Watson

Synopsis

There’s a very fine line between blushing bride and mascara-streaked sobbing mess. #beenthere

Lilly Swanson has been planning her perfect life since she was twelve years old: Meet Mr. Right, have the big white wedding, buy a house in the burbs, and raise 2.5 picture-perfect kids. However, when her fiancé bails, leaving Lilly alone at the altar to face five hundred gossipy guests, her dream turns into a nightmare. But then Lilly makes an impulsive decision—she ditches the dress, grabs her passport, and heads off to Thailand to spend her honeymoon alone.

Or so she thinks . . .

Because Lilly quickly learns that everything in Thailand is very hot: the weather, the merchandise, and especially Damien—the sexy, spontaneous man she meets before her feet even hit the sand. Now with no plan, and nothing holding her back, Lilly lets Damien lead her on a wild, unpredictable ride to the world’s most exclusive party, Burning Moon. But after a week of letting go, indulging her every impulse and desire, Lilly must go back to the girl she used to be. Or can Damien convince her that their party doesn’t have to end?

Review

Wow! This book was brilliant! It really reminded me of how much I enjoy reading books that are set in far off places! It was a dream to read. You know when you’ve had a really rubbish day and you need some comfort food and that first bite of whatever it is, is like pure heaven? Reading this book was like that, the whole thing was deeply satisfying.

The writing was really good, it all flowed nicely and the details were phenomenal, I have never had much desire to visit Thailand but after reading this book it’s changed my mind slightly because it just sounds so gorgeous.

So the story, after Lilly’s fiancé leaves her on the day of their wedding she decides to go on their honeymoon alone. It’s during a disastrous flight there that she meets Damian, and he takes on the trip of her life. I loved how Lilly and Damien met, it was just so funny, the sheer amount of humor in this story is another highlight, it had me laughing all the way through.

I really liked how Lilly evolved and found herself, I think self-discovery is a big theme in this book, as the Lilly at the beginning of this story is a different Lilly by the end and in a good way. She is able to realize that her relationship with her fiancé wasn’t what she thought it was and that she didn’t really love him, she was more in love with the idea of having a perfect life. I liked how Damien challenged her and pushed her to try new things but also looked after her and made her feel safe. Speaking of Damien, holy crap! This guy is near perfection! I really enjoyed his character. I thinking the scene where he takes her to a strip club is one of my favorite moments, the chemistry they have even at that early stage was sizzling!

To finish up, I just want to mention that I really liked how Jo Watson ended this book, it was so completely fulfilling!
