Summary
To hell with love, this goddess has other plans…
Thousands of years ago, the gods told a lie: how Persephone was a pawn in the politics of other gods. How Hades kidnapped Persephone to be his bride. How her mother, Demeter, was so distraught she caused the Earth to start dying.
The real story is much more interesting.
Persephone wasn’t taken to hell: she jumped. There was no way she was going to be married off to some smug god more in love with himself than her.
Now all she has to do is convince the Underworld’s annoyingly sexy, arrogant and frankly rude ruler, Hades, to fall in line with her plan. A plan that will shake Mount Olympus to its very core.
But consequences can be deadly, especially when you’re already in hell . . .
A fierce, fresh and enormously fun YA fantasy re-imagining from a growing TikTok superstar.

Review
I’ve read a few Persephone and Hades retellings but this one is my new favourite. I’ll admit to being a bit apprehensive going in as it’s YA so I wasn’t sure how well that was going to translate, the Greek Gods are not known for being tame, but Bea managed to do it really well.
The story does come with some trigger warnings so do check those. The story starts with Persephone’s Mom and Zeus attempting to arrange a marriage for her, which is something she very much doesn’t want, and in her desperation to escape this she flings herself into the underworld and seeks Hade’s protection.
The Persephone in this story is headstrong, determined to find her own happiness and not confirming the role that is being forced upon her and I loved every second of her rebellion. Her relationship with Hades is very slow burn, it gives he falls first vibes, which absolutely loved! Their banter is also very entertaining, and I liked how they became very good friends before any lovey stuff happened, it made their relationship seem more solid and real because this foundation had been set so well in the beginning.
Overall this was an excellent read, I’d definitely say that this was one of my favourite reads of the year. The only reason its not a 5 star read is that I think the world building could have been a bet more in depth, but as debut author I think this was a really good starting point.
My Rating: 4/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟
